Blood-brain barrier
The blood-brain barrier is a physiological barrier between the blood system and the central nervous system (brain). This barrier acts as a filter to prevent the entry of toxic substances, pathogens, which may be in the blood, into the brain.
This system allows the selective transportation of molecules such as glucose, water, and amino acids, which are crucial for neuronal function.
